View on Camuendo and Lake San Pablo in the background

Camuendo is a little village located at an altitude of 9.000ft between the northeastern shores of Lake San Pablo and the southwestern flanks of Mount Imbabura. It makes the perfect base for hikes around the lake, but if you are in good physical condition you may also attempt the steep climb up to Huarmi Imbabura (12.800ft) and further on to the very top of Imbabura Mountain (15.100ft). There is also a bike rental place, a traditional hat workshop, and plenty of organic gardens, whose owners will happily explain you about all the different crops and their uses, and prepare a traditional meal for you. For now there is only camping facilities, but some families will be able to provide guest rooms in the near future.
